This course is designed to help students handle the extensive amounts of reading they encounter in university. The goal is to help students improve reading speed and comprehension by using reading strategies, broadening vocabulary, doing timed readings, and participating in discussions on the topics of the readings. Students will read a variety of texts from different genres. Students will also do extensive reading, which is an opportunity to broaden vocabulary and develop reading fluency outside of the classroom. To be specific, students will form groups according to their comprehension level and read the same books from the graded readers. During and after reading the books, they will have discussions in class and write reports based on the discussions. *Students will be assigned to a class based on the result of the TOEFL-ITP test which is done as part of the English Placement Test taken before the start in their first semester at SILS.
